The University of Edinburgh's renewable energy spinout, SeaWarm, has secured £550,000 to expand its heating systems across Scotland from Equity Gap, Scottish Enterprise, and Old College Capital, The University of Edinburgh’s in-house venture investment fund.
Co-founded by Professor Christopher McDermott from the University of Edinburgh’s School of GeoSciences, former hydrogeologist Dr. Gus Fraser Harris, and Cameron Muir of CSM Plumbing and Heating, SeaWarm harnesses natural warmth from water sources to provide sustainable heating. This innovative technology aims to reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 90% and lower energy bills.
Director of Venture Creation at Edinburgh Innovations, Lizzie Withington, said: “It’s a fantastic team effort when a company spins out, involving EI’s business development support, technology transfer and early-stage funding from OCC, as well as, of course, the cutting-edge research and inventions of the University’s academics.
“Investment from Scottish Enterprise and Equity Gap now enables SeaWarm’s team to go on to help meet the world’s sustainable energy challenge, starting with Scotland’s coastline, with this exciting new technology.”
Lar's Chief Executive, Ann Leslie appeared on STV to talk about the project which has been partially housed at our Old Port Edgar Barracks site for the last few years - watch the report by clicking on the link below:
